We take a look at the creation accounts in Genesis 1 and Genesis 2. Male and female are created
together (“them”) in Genesis 1:27. They’re both created in the image of God, given dominion
over the rest of creation, and encouraged to multiply. This is our shared, equal nature. In Genesis
2, male and female are created distinctly separate and given unique roles to play. This is our
distinct, complementary personhood. We are reminded of the Triune God who is one in nature
and three in persons.
