Body & Soul
We are familiar with the idea of “going through the motions.” It’s not hard to understand God in
Isaiah when He says, “they come near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.” We
understand that God wants not just our bodies present in worship, but our souls, too. Paul
articulates the opposite argument to the Platonist-infected Corinthian church: God wants not
just your souls in worship, but your bodies, too. Our culture has separated body and soul and
suggests what we do with our bodies doesn’t matter. We understand that we belong, body and
soul, to Jesus who paid for all of our being with His precious blood.
